The Nest: A Class with Sarah Smith

Last Saturday I was fortunate enough to take a class with Sarah Smith, of Hope, Maine,  using  techniques of screen printing, monoprinting, writing on fabric, and created this piece, “The Nest”.   First time screen printing and I was surprised at how easy it was–once I had the great instruction from Sarah.   There were about 8 of us in the class and each piece came out differently.   She gave us several ideas on how to mount this to finish the piece off.    The screen print was Sarah’s own design,  one of several.   Always fun to try something new!

    1. It is about 10 inches square. It was done with a silk screen, fabric paints, and then weaving the nest with all sorts of yarns, sisal, bits of pre-fused fabrics and anything else that might look like it would make up a nest. Sarah is teaching the class in Houston later this year.
