Handquilted and done!

Finished my selvedge quilt just before the end of 2016!  It was 18 months in the making and I am very happy with the results.   I machine quilted straight lines and hand quilted in the white open spaces, making hand drawn stars in each.   Because it is large and I don’t have a good place to photograph it, I will post a picture of the complete quilt when I figure out how to get it all in!    It is a very heavy quilt, will be nice and warm when used.   This is the second selvedge quilt I have done and have enough left to do another–size will depend on when I run out of selvedge pieces.

Next on the agenda is Tula Pink’s City Sampler.  I have been getting fat quarter packages from Alewives Quilts for the past several months (it is a year long program) and I ‘m going to use those for the blocks.   I have seen quite a few examples of this quilt and like the simplicity and variety of the blocks.   My small quilt group members are also joining in on the fun.

We have all been “hooked” by EPP and a few of the Coastal Quilters (chapter of Pine Tree guild in Maine) are doing various projects from “The New Hexagon” by Katja Marek.   Love having the handwork to do.

Most exciting in quilt news here is that we have started a Modern Quilt Guild here in midcoast Maine and had our first meeting at the end of December.   We have enough members now to join the MQG!  Four of us are going to QuiltCon in Savannah in February –love the city and love the quilts!   Looking forward to that trip.

I have been so fortunate, after retiring here to mid coast Maine, to meet such a sharing, talented, friendly, and wise group of women.   We have a great community here.  Looking forward to many more years of friendship.
